Baptism
Baptism. Baptists practice believer's baptism by immersion. It is one of the first significant acts through which the believer announces personal faith in Jesus Christ and is initiated into church life and ministry.
Baptism is:
- An act of obedience: Jesus commands it (Matt 28:19).
- An act of following Jesus' example (Matt 3:13-17).
- A Symbol of the death and resurrection of Jesus (Romans 6:1-4)
- An act of following Jesus through death and resurrection (Romans 6:1-4)
- A public confession, a "sermon" declaring God's love (1 Corinthians 15:2-8).
- A declaration of adoption - Jesus Christ has adopted me into his family (John 1:12-13, Ephesians 2:19-22).
- An announcement that Jesus Christ has made me a new person and I want to celebrate my spiritual birthday (John 3:3-8).
